Our Mission

We believe that it is both desirable and possible to eliminate all nuclear weapons on Earth and prevent new ones from being produced. We join others around the globe who are seeking a world free of nuclear weapons.

We stand with the United Methodist General Conference which has stated:

  • Nuclear Weapons, whether used or threatened, are grossly evil and morally wrong.
  • As an instrument of mass destruction, nuclear weapons slaughter the innocent and ravage the environment.
  • When used as instruments of deterrence, nuclear weapons hold innocent people hostage for political and military purposes.
  • Therefore, the doctrine of nuclear deterrence is morally corrupt and spiritually bankrupt.

We believe that global elimination of nuclear weapons is practical because it is within the self-interest of the possessors to do so. As pointed out in an essay on "Useless Weapons", sixty years of experience has shown that nuclear weapons have no military utility in combat. They have no role in dealing with terrorists. There are better ways to block "rogue nations" from acquiring nuclear weapons than threatened or actual nuclear attack. For the purpose of deterring other nations' nuclear weapons, a wiser and safer course is mutual elimination.

We are certain that achieving zero nukes is within the capacity of humankind if there is the will and applied wisdom to do so. This website pulls together ideas from many sources on how to get to zero and offers opportunity for others to present their scenarios.
